 NORTHERN QUARTER MANCHESTER WALKING TOUR

Join on us a journey on foot, off the beaten-track, where tourist buses don’t go - through Manchester’s Northern Quarter neighbourhood.

In the Alternative Manchester Walking Tour, we explore Manchester’s most exciting neighbourhood: The Northern Quarter. Come and see another side of Manchester, like a Mancunian, with a small and personal walking tour group.

Today, the Northern Quarter is Manchester’s independent district with a bohemian character - it’s where actors rehearse and musicians perform, where hipsters sip craft ale and sift for rare vinyls, as techno-heads lose weekends in basements - this is where artists from all over the world come to use backstreets as canvasses to create the most unique street art.

Yet only a few decades ago, the ‘Northern Quarter’ didn’t exist. Up until recently, people dismissed this part of Manchester, as a dodgy jumble of derelict warehouses... but then something exciting began stirring - and that’s where our tour starts.

This is the story of how the Northern Quarter became what it is today. On our alternative walking tour we will take you on an adventure, exploring the Manchester of today.

LGBT+ MANCHESTER WALKING TOUR

Join us on this tour to discover Manchester’s LGBT+ communities, past and present.

Our focus on this tour will be the Canal Street area. We will tell the story of how it came to be known as the Gay Village. We will explore monuments and memorials as well as mosaic street art and murals. Stories include of police brutality, political activists, one of the country’s oldest gay pubs, and Alan Turing. Our LGBT+ guides will give insider recommendations of the best LGBT+ events, venues, groups and parties so that you can connect with Manchester’s incredible LGBT+ life.
